New Season, New Coach, New Team

The 2022-23 Volleyball Season is underway and it’s shaping up to be a great season.

This season started off strong and as of right now the team is in a rut, but they are working hard to get out of it and continue to finish out the season strong. The coach of the Lowellville Rockets JV team is Christisna Freed, a health and physical education teacher at Lowellville. Ms. Freed has been coaching for five years. Based on her experience she feels this year’s season has been going well. According to Coach Freed they just need to come together as a team, have fun, and not worry about the record but focus on the game now.

Ms. Freed used to coach in Lordstown. She was able to coach with her best friend and they had a great group of girls. While coaching in Lordstown, they played Heartland Christian, which is one of the strongest teams she has ever seen. All of the players on Lordstown’s team travel together, they move to the ball and always get it up in the air, amazing skills, and always cover all over the court.

Before Ms. Freed started coaching for Lowellville she came from a school where the record was not the best. She wanted to come to Lowellville because she heard things about the girls' skills and how they worked as a team. She was surprised when the Lowellville JV team had a winning streak of seven games because that has never happened during her coaching career. She says, “When we have fun, have our own inside jokes, and when I see it being used during a game, even when we’re having a really tough game, I think that’s the best quality because I know we’re gonna come back and do better.” Her players are definitely naturals at what they do in the game, they pick up skills easily, and are eager to learn. Best of luck for the rest of your season!
