The Forgotten Holiday

There is always that forgotten cousin, doctor’s appointment, and school assignment, but what about the forgotten holiday? Thanksgiving always seems to be overlooked and forgotten by so many companies, stores, and even families. Does your family forget about Thanksgiving or are you one of the few that remember it? When talking to our seniors, Aaliyah Bilinsky and Mykenzie Routunno, shared what their families always do, how they prepare, and their opinions about Thanksgiving. These girls have two completely different lifestyles when it comes to Thanksgiving and how they celebrate it.

Aaliyah and her family only remember Thanksgiving because of Black Friday. Aaliyah’s papa always cooks dinner and the whole family goes there to eat. Then after dinner, she and her family go Black Friday shopping. Aaliyah is perfectly okay with the fact that companies and stores overlook this holiday.

Mykenzie, on the other hand, always remembers Thanksgiving because it is right around her nephew’s birthday. Mykenzie and her family always have homemade dinner including pumpkin pie for dessert. Mykenzie has other opinions about celebrating Thanksgiving. . Mykenzie agrees that yes, there are not many decorations, but that the holiday should still be recognized by possibly offering some type of discounts in stores. When asked what these girls are thankful for they said: family, friends, life, and books.”
