Behind the Scenes of Homecoming

As we all know getting ready for a dance is a process, which is very different for boys and girls. Girls take a lot longer to get ready than boys. Appointments start early in the morning for girls while boys can sleep in and do whatever they would like. Senior Anthony Lucente gets some lifting in, and gets to play video games. With pictures being around 4:15 pm he won’t start getting ready until around 1:15 in the afternoon so he has time to shower, shave, fix his hair, and go take pictures with his date. Most girls do not have this much free time before the dance.

Senior Savannah Procick started getting ready around noon with her doing her own makeup and then a 1:15 hair appointment. She prefers to do her makeup first so that her hair doesn’t come undone. Most Seniors going to the dance have a routine down because they have been going to Homecoming for years now. However, some Juniors who are members of the Homecoming Court have some extra preparations before the big dance. Junior Braylen Dabney, a member of the court, said his day consisted of sleeping in, getting a new chain, and replacing his watch battery. He started getting ready pretty early, showering around 11 am because his grandparents were coming over for pictures. Junior Mia Mangine, another member of the court, said her day started with her hair appointment at 12:30 with makeup right after. She prefers hair first because she was doing a ponytail and knew it would stay but thought her makeup would fade if she did it first.

For Freshmen, Homecoming is a new experience, and many Freshmen wanted to take their time in getting ready. This is the freshmens’ for time going to a dance so their day was much different from the upperclassmen. Freshman Reeve Donatelli’s day started with him sleeping in, watching T.V, and going on a run. He didn’t start getting ready until around 5 pm. However, Freshman Natalie Macejko’s day started at 1 pm with her hair appointment, then once she got home she did her own makeup. She did her hair first since she was doing her own makeup.

Getting ready for the dance is a lot different for everyone. For older students routines are established, appointments are made early, and they can easily manage how long it will take them to look great because they have had experience. There is another layer of excitement in looking their best for members of the Homecoming Court and freshman students going to Homecoming for the first time. No matter how long it takes to get ready, or what preparations students make, it is worth it when they have a fun time at the dance!
