Best Band in the Land

Lowellville High School Marching Band is an impressive school band of 103 students. Mr. Antonucci, Lowellville’s band director, is very happy with how this year’s band season is playing this year and feels the band is doing 100%. He is really happy with how the seniors are doing leading the band. Mr. A. keeps kids interested in the marching band by picking music that is fun to play as well as traveling to places such as Disney and Cedar Point. Mr. A said he must make sure he picks entertaining songs for the marching band, as well as making sure he has all of the supplies needed for the band. The songs this year include: “Soak Up The Sun” by Sheryl Crow, “Firework” by Katy Perry, “Cheeseburger in Paradise” by Jimmy Buffet, “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion, and “Mr. Brightside”by The Killers.

Mr. A believes this year’s halftime show is one of the best we have ever had. Mr. Antonucci’s favorite song this year is “Soak Up The Sun” by Sheryl Crow because he has been looking forward to having the band play it for a long time. When going to Disney, band members should expect to have a fun time with friends in the Florida heat while marching down Main Street. It is exciting to have crowds of people watching our school band while they play and march through Disney World.

All junior high students at Lowellville are required to take either band or choir. After interviewing 8th grader Levi Moore, a snare drummer in the LHS percussion line, Levi described how he loves having more responsibilities. Levi Moore feels great about these new responsibilities because he can help new band members and 7th graders. Levi is looking forward to the Halloween show and the Disney World field trip. His favorite songs this year are “Soak Up The Sun” by Sheryl Crow and “Firework” by Katy Perry.

After Junior High, students have an option to choose an elective. Freshman Reese Agee decided to continue participating in the marching band because of all the friends she has made through the LHS Marching Band. Every band member has a favorite song and Reese’s favorite band song is “Mr. Brightside.” Reese is excited for Disney in the spring of this year. The instrument Reese plays is the Bass drum for the LHS percussion line.

Sophomore Tyler Betlyn, a trombonist in the LHS Low Brass Line, describes what he's excited for and what new responsibilities he has. Tyler is excited about being the trombone section leader. Tyler has been in the marching band for two years. His favorite song this year is “Hang On Sloopy” by The McCoys. Tyler believes that the newfound responsibilities he has can be a good kind of stress.

Senior Evan Alfano, a saxophone in the LHS woodwind line, describes what it is like to be a senior and a leader of the band. Evan has been a part of the LHS Marching Band for 6 years. Evan said, “It is an honor to be both a section leader and band president. I like knowing that I have a lot of people's support.” The show Evan has found the best is the Alumni Band Night. Evan’s favorite show in all of his years in the band was the Bruno Mars show he played in seventh grade. Evan’s favorite song in all of his band years was “Shallow” by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. When asked how he feels about having extra responsibilities as the band president, Evan stated that “It's a lot as sometimes but I wouldn’t change it for anything.”
