Valentine’s Day Celebrations in First Grade

Every year on February 14th, love and appreciation is in the air. We think about the people who are important to us and ways to show them that we care. The elementary students in grades 1-6 make Valentine’s Day boxes and bring in class valentines to share with everybody. Creating the boxes is a big deal for the students. Many go all out with creative, fun, and large decorated boxes. This year, students were excited to spread love to their friends and teachers.

Mrs. Anderson is one of the teachers of the first grade. The first graders were asked to make a Valentine’s Day box and design it however they would have liked. The media team took a trip to the elementary and interviewed a couple of students. The interviewee was first grader Selma. She created one of the most creative Valentine’s day boxes, made of a paper mâché Pokemon ball. She also passed out some heart-shaped lollipops. Selma said she planned on asking Jackson S. to be her Valentine.

Next, we interviewed Jax, who is also in first grade. He made an ambulance Valentine’s Day box. He explained that to make it, he had to take Amazon boxes and wrap them in white paper, draw doors and add some blue lines. Jax passed out ring pops for his sweet treat. He said he is not planning on asking anyone to be his Valentine.

In Mrs. Higgins’ first-grade class, two more first-graders were interviewed. . Autumn made a barn for her Valentine’s Day box. She said that she and her mom spray painted the boxes, glued the roof on, and stuck little sticker animals on the outside to make the box. For Autumn's sweet treat, she passed out Fun Dip.

Lastly, we interviewed Cohen, who made a tractor for his Valentine’s Day box. Cohen said that he took a test on the story, “The Day It Rained Hearts.”. For Cohen’s sweet treat he brought in M&M’s, Snickers, and Twix. He said he was going to ask Avery to be his Valentine. Overall the first graders had a great Valentine’s Day. Both classes ate lots of treats, passed out Valentines, and had a great time.
