Sweethearts Dance 2023

On February 4, 2023, Lowellville High School held the annual Sweethearts Dance. The dance was held in the cafeteria and the crowning took place in the gymnasium before the beginning of the dance. Parents and family members of the Sweetheart Court were welcome to attend. The gym was decorated with a balloon arch made of red, pink and heart shaped balloons. The 2023 Sweethearts king was Alex Modelski and the queen was Averi Shumaker. They were elected by students in grade 9-12.

The dance was filled with diverse fashion trends. Many girls wore formal attire in classic Valentine’s colors of red and pink. Another popular choice for girls this year were black dresses with colored shoes. A popular choice for the boys were pattern suit jackets in red, black, and white. In addition, many boys wore turtlenecks under their suit jackets. Anthony Lucente and Alex Modelski shared they decided to wear patterned suit jackets because they are in style and look cool.

The cafeteria was decorated with red lights, red and pink tablecloths, and vase centerpieces.

Nick Kerpsack was the DJ. During the dance many good dancing songs were played, including “Wobble”, “Cotton Eyed Joe”, and ”The Macarena.”  Refreshments were served during the dance. The dance lasted from 6-8 pm. After the dance many students went out to eat at a variety of restaurants including Cafe Capri, Blue Wolf and BJ’s. After dinner, many went to each other’s houses, hung out, and had sleepovers. All in all, everyone agreed the night was a blast and was perfectly sweet.
