Black Friday: To Shop or to Not

Black Friday is a tradition that has been around for many years. A day when clothes, electronics, and the latest products go on a major sale. Many people even give up their Thanksgiving celebrations or cut their dinner short in order to begin shopping early. Many people here in Lowellville love to Black Friday shop and participate in the tradition.

Lowellville Senior, Savannah Procick, says that Black Friday is a day of shopping sales. She goes early Friday morning around 10 am. She doesn't have much of an opinion on the stores closing early Thursday because she says she shops like every day is Black Friday. Savannah does not camp out for Black Friday but says that she would if there were good enough sales. She doesn´t always have an idea of what she wants, but whatever catches her eye she will get. Altogether she plans on spending between $200 and $350.

Mrs. Kerpsack says that Black Friday is a day for people to go shopping hoping to get all the deals. She goes Black Friday shopping every year typically going with friends or her husband. She will usually go around midnight Friday morning. Mrs. Kerpsack is fine with the stores closing early on Thursday because she used to work in retail and thinks that the workers should be able to eat dinner with their families before going back to work for a long day. She usually spends $300-500 looking to buy as many Christmas gifts as she can get.

Some advice that I would give someone that has never gone Black Friday shopping is to be prepared. Bring water with you and wear tennis shoes because you will be standing in long lines all day. You will want to dress for the weather, whatever the temperature is that day. I recommend not bringing a lot of people with you because they will just hold you back and make it a very long day. If you go shopping by yourself or with only a couple of people, you will be able to get your shopping done faster. Happy shopping!
