New Change Allows Costumes for All

Before this year dressing up for Halloween was considered a senior privilege. While elementary students in grades K-6 dress up annually and participate in the parade and classroom parties, students in grades 7- 11 do not. This year all of that changed but there are mixed opinions about this new change. Some people really enjoy this new change and others believe it should have stayed only for seniors and elementary students.

Junior Arianna Wasko, feels that the whole high school should be able to dress up, but thinks it is unfair to the seniors this year who have been waiting years to dress up on Halloween. Through and through, she was happy that she could dress up at school. Arianna dressed as a witch and does enjoy trick-or-treating. Her favorite movie is Corpse Bride by Tim Burton but when it comes to horror Veronica by Paco Plaza.

The seniors had some mixed emotions about everyone being able to dress for Halloween this year. Senior Anthony Lucente felt that it should stay only seniors as senior Halloween costumes were a senior tradition. This Halloween season Anthony was excited to watch all of the scary movies. His favorite Halloween movie is the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus by Kenny Ortega. This Halloween Anthony was a Harley Davidson biker as well as a princess. Anthony hangs out with friends or watches scary movies on Halloween.

Senior Evan Alfano feels that everybody being able to wear costumes was a fun idea and he liked it. He feels it should have always been this way. Evan’s favorite Halloween pastime is carving pumpkins. His favorite Halloween movie is an all time favorite for horror fans, Halloween by John Carpenter. On Halloween Evan passes out candy. This year Evan was a killer doctor and a referee for Halloween. During the Halloween season he enjoys going to the pumpkin patch and drinking apple cider.

As a new tradition this year, Lowellville seniors and staff members were in a costume contest in which the students voted on the top three costumes for seniors and staff. The winning seniors included: Kevin Johnson, Vinny Ballone, Jayden Mamula, Brady Bunofsky, Alex Modelski, Aidan DeBeaulieu, and Ryan Hvisdak as various religious figures. Runner ups were Avery Shumaker and Anthony Lucente as Beauty and the Beast. Winning staff members included Dr. Hale winning first place as a wizard, Mr.Solak and Mr. Hunt came in second place as the Men in Black, and Chad Likens as a merman won third place.
