Social Media

Social media is a set of platforms that teenagers use everyday. There is a plethora of apps such as: Snapchat, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok. A poll was created asking students at Lowellville High School what social media platform they use the most. The options included were Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, and a space for students to specify other platforms.

There are a variety of popular social media platforms available for teenagers these days. Snapchat is used to communicate with friends. You can send photos(snaps), texts, and make posts on your story. Twitter is used to make tweets, which are short posts that can contain text, videos, photos, and/or links. People use Instagram to upload photos and videos which are shared with their followers and can be liked, commented on, and shared. TikTok is a social media platform used to create, share, and discover short videos. Youtube is a place for people to make different types of videos for others entertainment. All of these apps allow people to express themselves and show their personalities for anyone to see.

There were 32 responses in total and many of them use the same apps. After viewing the responses and results, we found that Snapchat and Tiktok are used the most. They are tied for the most used at around 33% usage. Around 27% of students use Youtube and only 3.1% use Twitter. Another 3.1% of students do not use social media at all.

Out of all of the social media platforms I use Snapchat the most. I think Snapchat makes it easier to communicate with others and is an easy way to make friends. I also like TikTok because it gives me something to do in my free time.

Maddie Esposito said,“Snapchat is an easier way to communicate and I've met way more people through it, although, TikTok has taught me more than anything else.”

Others may like TikTok more because it's their main form of entertainment or they may not like socializing much. According to Natalie Parry,“TikTok is the better social media, it never fails to keep me entertained and personally I do not like communicating through Snapchat.”
