Miracle on Easy Street is a fun, musical Christmas event during the Christmas season in Youngstown, Ohio. Miracle truly is what it is called, a miracle. The directors of the performance, Maureen Collins and Todd Hancock put this show together for the first time 34 years ago. This performance has many well known Christmas songs including, “White Christmas”, “Merry Little Christmas,” “Need A Little Christmas,” just to name a few. Each song includes a dance number to go along with it as well.
Maureen and Todd have a very special reason for putting together this Christmas show. “It’s horrible that during the holidays that so many people are struggling with money, what are we going to get, how are we going to afford this, how are we going to eat, how are we going to stay warm. People need a lift so we (Maureen and Todd) decided to put together a Christmas show because when you watch Christmas specials you’re always in a good mood, it puts you in a good mood, and we always try to make it affordable for families to come,” Maureen said. She said that this show is important because it originally wasn’t such a big event. It was only a little show that was going to be used as a fundraising event. However, they quickly realized that this show means a lot to people.
Maureen said that this show is the biggest it has been in a long time. It consists of many experienced singers who haven’t been able to be in the show in a long time. “In this show, we have some returning rascals, ten of them, who are my helpers for workshops. So they’re called my alumni this year. Now that’s Finn, Georgie, Kaleb, Anna Sophia, Zoe, Hannah, Aubrey, Maddie, and Alexa. Also, Natalie Kovacs is coming back from New York, because she is in school in New York, and Cortney McKay came back from Florida to do the show. So there’s two older rascals returning to the show. And this year, the very first little rascal, my niece, Katy Collins, is coming back from Nashville to do the show.”
During the interview, I asked if it had gotten any easier to run and put this show together, and she replied, “It was, until the pandemic, because so many of our rascals grew up right under our noses, and so, Megan (Cleland) and I we have a lot of new kids, and if you notice, I mean usually we have like 20 rascals who did it before, so they helped everybody do it right but now we have 20 brand new ones..”
Maureen said she was more excited than scared to be on the big stage again, and she had one message for the viewers of the show this year. “Stay hopeful, come see the miracle, and take the magic home with you.”
