Stepping into Netflix’s newly released show Wednesday we see that Jenna Ortega played an incredible role as Wednesday. Not only did her acting make the show seem more realistic and interesting, but she made it seem like her own. The story of Wednesday, which was directed by Tim Burton, is related to The Addams Family, which is a movie directed by Chris Meledandri.
The Addams Family was released November 22, 1991. The film focuses on a bizarre family of fictional characters created by American cartoonist Charles Addams. These characters include Gomez, Pugsley, Morticia, Thing, Uncle Fester, Grandma Frump, and Wednesday. Gomez and Pugsley are enthusiastic, Morticia is witty and muted, even sometimes deadly, Thing is a very important character in Wednesday, it is a disassembled hand who has a very opinionated personality, Grandma Frump and Uncle Fester are two silly but good natured characters, and Wednesday is definitely her mother’s daughter. Wednesday is a girl who is fascinated with death who loves doing lots of scientific experiments. She usually does most of her experiments on her brother Pugsley for "fun" or for punishment. Wednesday has tried to kill Pugsley many times. She enjoys raising spiders and researching the Bermuda Triangle. . Although the family shares macabre interests, they are not evil. Morticia and Gomez are supportive, loving parents who want the best for Pugsley and Wednesday.
The show Wednesday is about Wednesday and her experience at Nevermore Academy, a Vermont school for “outcasts” where the four main cliques are made up of werewolves, vampires, sirens, and the gorgons. There she has a roommate named Enid who slowly becomes her first ever best friend. Wednesday was sent to this school because it is where her parents had attended and she had gotten expelled from her old school for getting payback on her brother's bullies. She was very unhappy about going to Nevermore and felt that her parents were just trying to control her. Her parents, Gomez and Morticia, had loved the school, mostly because that is where they met. They wanted Wednesday to be able to meet someone and fall in love just like they did and they also wanted her to feel normal around all of the other people since they also had special abilities. Wednesday is not usually the sympathetic type of person, so she does not really give anyone the chance to get to know her. She prefers to stay mysterious towards everyone and does not let anyone see her emotions, she is very closed up about them. Even the audience didn't know her real personality until later in the show. She also later becomes accepting of the fact that people want to be her friend. There is a mystery that Wednesday is determined to solve with many twists and turns to keep the audience guessing.
Overall, I really loved this show, it has become very popular, and I believe that it goes together very well with the movie The Addams Family. The actors on the show play these iconic characters well, the references to Edgar Allen Poe and the creation of the Nevermore Academy are fun and imaginative, and Addams family fans will enjoy the return of Christina Ricci. There are eight episodes of this show and all of the episodes dropped at once, perfect for some much needed TV binging. In other words, Wednesday is a show that really knows how to keep viewers wanting more.
