After four years, Fall Out Boy has released a new album called So Much (for) Stardust, which came out on March 24, 2023. The album includes 13 songs; the first of three songs come with a music video. The album is pop punk but has more of a punk sound to it compared to their last album.
“Love from the Other Side”
The song is about two people's love and how much pain it brings now after the love dies. Still sharing their love throughout the same places even though the memories bring pain with them. The video is about the band getting away from bad guys and exploring “emo land” in a post populist world.
“Heartbreak Feels So Good”
The second song in the album is called “Heartbreak Feels So Good.” The song means how feelings can change and how love can fade away quickly. Even though sometimes you don’t want to let the love go. The song is also about releasing your emotions and then letting them go. Then after letting these emotions go you move on and grow as a person. This song is the second music video of the three. The music video for the song is the three members of the band trying to make it to their show in time while the cops try to arrest them.
“Hold Me Like A Grudge”
This song is the third song of the album and the third and final music video. This song’s music video is a continuation of “This Ain’t A Scene” music video from Fall out Boy’s Infinity on High album. The music video is about Pete Wentz trying to save all of Fall Out Boy’s albums from disappearing. The song “This Ain’t a Scene" is one of Spencer’s favorite songs. This song is about the lead singer of Fall Out Boy, Patrick Stump cutting off his “part-time lover.” As well as feeling the emotions of leaving his part-time lover.
“Fake Out”
The song “Fake Out” has a similar sounding beginning to “After Dark” by Mr. Kitty. If you have ever heard “After Dark” you’ll be able to easily recognize this. A small pet peeve of Ari’s is that the songs sound similar even though the songs are good. This song is about making plans and then breaking them and not getting your hopes too high, because you never know what may happen.
“Heaven, Lows”
The 5th song in the album is “Heaven, Lows.” This song is about the singer looking for something to give his life meaning while facing day to day struggles that pushes him back into his lows. When Ari first heard this song she thought it was a love song. This was before she analyzed the lyrics.
“So Good Right Now”
One of Arianna’s favorite songs in the album is about feeling good in a moment knowing it’s temporary. Even though happiness is temporary, they still live and enjoy the moment. Just to crash later.
“The Pink Shell”
This song is about a person who is trying to hold themself and their world together. While everything around them seems to be falling apart. Ari doesn't like this song because it's more of a poem than a song and doesn’t sit right in the middle of the album.
“I Am My Own Muse”
The song is promoting self-life and self-courage and learning to embrace yourself. Not relying on the opinions or validation of others. This song has the best message compared to the rest. This is because it can be motivating and amazing for people who are down on themselves.
“Flu Game”
The song “Flu Game” captures the intense emotions and adrenaline of a basketball game played by Michael Jordan during the 1997 NBA Finals. Despite being severely ill with the flu, Jordan pushed through the physical pain and delivered a memorable performance that secured a crucial win for his team, the Chicago Bulls.
“Baby Annihilation”
This song is a remastered version of an earlier version that you can find in the UK bonus track of Folie à Deux. It has a heavy gutter and more of an edge than the rest of the songs. The song mostly talks about the highlights of the band’s life together. Spencer finds this song rather enjoyable since it is a heavier song.
“The Kintsugi Kid (Ten Years)”
The song is a reflection of the last few years of the band. It talks about the struggle of growing up. Learning from mistakes, but not forgetting them. Things like these mistakes can wear a person down. Spencer also likes this song because of the message.
“What A Time To Be Alive”
This song is about the Covid pandemic and how it took a toll on everyone’s lives and history. The song talks about the good times and the bad times of 2020 and how they felt during the quarantine and the pandemic.
“So much (for) Starburst”
The song is about how fast you can lose sight of what’s important. With lyrics from Love From The Other Side. It talks about the fleeting nature of fame and how fast someone can build you up just to knock you down. The addition of lyrics from other songs is an interesting aspect which Spencer is a fan of.
The band went back to their punk style for this album using a lot of inspiration from their previous album Folie à Deux. This album would be really good for people who like rock emo music. Spencer believes that overall this album is a really good one and a rather enjoyable bring back to Fall Out Boy’s old punk era. He thinks that the songs have really good messages in their words. Ari thinks the album is one of the best albums Fall Out Boy has released in awhile. Taking inspiration from her all time favorite album makes it even better.
