As the regular season has officially ended, the Lowellville Rockets sustained a perfect record of 10-0. They are one of few teams in Lowellville history to accomplish that mark. Throughout the season the Rockets have achieved many goals and the season is not over. The Rockets clinched a #2 playoff seeding and hosted the Steubenville Central Catholic Crusaders in the week eleven playoff brawl.
When asked about the improvement changes during the off-season, Lowellville’s senior quarterback, Vinny Ballone, mentioned that the team focused a lot on defense. He said that their main goal was to limit the scoring of their opponents. Ballone expressed how important of a season this is for him. He stated, “It is my senior year and it is my last one so I’m going to make it great.”
The senior quarterback has 46 touchdowns this year. He also tied a state record for passing touchdowns in a single game (9). When asked what he has learned this year Vinny stated, “That we need to trust the process because in years past we weren’t successful like we are now.”
As the Rockets get ready for playoffs, many people can’t help to wonder if this Lowellville team will go far in the playoffs. When asked what gives him hope on a potential playoff run Coach Mamula, head coach for the Lowellville Rockets said, “Our confidence. There is no guy in here that doesn’t think we can’t win.”
Mamula expressed there is no false hope in the locker room between the coaches and players, and that everyone is willing to fight. When asked what he has learned from this football season Coach Mamula stated, “It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog. And we got some dogs on this football team.” Coach Mamula \ believes that although this Lowellville team isn’t the biggest, they do indeed have a lot of heart.
