Lowellville Basketball Preview

Basketball season is right around the corner and the Rockets are looking to have another great season this year! In 2021, the Rockets finished with a 20-5 record, and went on to become sectional champs. Unfortunately the season ended with a loss to St. Thomas Aquinas (47-37) in the district championship. Senior basketball star, Anthony Lucente (Ant), said, “It didn’t end the way we hoped, but we made a good run and we are hungry to get back to work this year.” Lucente is a strong leader on this team, as well as the most recent 1000 point scorer for the Rockets. Ant is confident and excited going into the 2022 season. He feels that they are going to have a really great year.

Head Coach, Matt Olson, agrees with Anthony. He said, “I’m very excited, with only losing two seniors and having a bunch of underclassmen coming back.” During the off season Coach Olson is always looking for ways to better himself as a coach and his players. The Rockets started the offseason last summer with ten practices, two basketball camps, and a scrimmage. They also had to go to jump stretch twice a week at the YMCA. Olson feels his team is prepared and ready to hit the ground running with many returning varsity players who know the system. Olson talks about the key to a great season, “we have to respond to big moments, and play as a team. We have all the talent in the world, we just have to utilize it and it will be hard to stop.”

The Rockets kick off their season right here in the Ville against Crestview, Tuesday November 29. The team is hungry for an undefeated season and to go far in the playoffs. They are hoping their senior loaded squad can help carry them to a very successful season.
