The 2022 Lowellville Rockets Football season was one to remember. With their first undefeated season since 2002, they had big expectations heading into the postseason. After an important week ten win where they blew out Western Reserve 34-7, they were ready for their first postseason matchup against Steubenville. Coming into this game the Steubenville Crusaders were 4-6 while the Lowellville Rockets were 10-0. After a slow start for the Rockets, they ended up taking this game by a landslide, winning by 40 points with a final score of 54-14.
With all of the momentum on their side, they entered their second postseason matchup against the Lucas Cubs. Lucas came into this matchup with a 5-6 regular season record, and a tough win against the Toronto Red Knights in their first playoff game with the final score being 35-26. After the first quarter battle between the Cubs and the Rockets, Lowellville was off to a six point lead with the score being 13-7. However, their luck started to fade with a 13-21 score at the half with Lucas taking the lead. Both teams fought hard, but at the end of the fourth quarter the Rockets undefeated season came to a close, with the final score being 25-35.
Even with the heartbreaking second round loss, this season was still greatly successful. A member of the Rockets coaching staff, Mike Minnie said, “It was an honor to coach this team.” Many people think with the loss of so many seniors after this year, this will be the end of the Rockets dominance. Mike Minnie said, “We still have a lot of younger guys, we're gonna build upon that and continue to get better every year.” Hats off to the players for a fantastic season. GO ROCKETS!
