College Football Playoffs

The College Football Playoffs (CFP) are a great compliment to anyone’s holiday break. The College Football Playoffs include four teams competing against each other for the most illustrious award you can ask for, The Dr Pepper National Championship Trophy. This award provides the team with bragging rights over all of the power five conferences, including the BIG TEN, The SEC (Southeastern Conference), The Pac-12, and the Big-12.

Last year, the Georgia Bulldogs won the trophy over the Alabama Crimson Tide, 33-18. They had to beat the Michigan Wolverines to make it to this game. This was the game Kirby Smart, the head coach for the Georgia Bulldogs, finally beat Alabama and his old friend, Nick Saban who is the head coach for Alabama. Smart previously coached with Saban at Alabama, where he was an exceptional defensive coordinator. Starting Quarterback, Stetson Bennet, helped lead the Bulldogs to victory.

The first College football National Championship in the modern era of football was between the Tennessee Volunteers led by head coach, Phillip Fulmer, and the Florida State Seminoles led by head coach, Bobby Bowden. Tennessee won that game 23-16, making the Volunteers the first team to win the National Championship in the CFP era. In 1999 the Volunteers went 13-0 along with a conference record of 8-0. The Florida State Seminoles went 11-2 along with a conference record of 7-1.

The Rose Bowl is one of the most iconic games in sports. It starts with the Tournament of Roses, which is a parade of floats decorated with roses followed by the Rose Bowl Game. This game was first played on January 1, 1902; however, this game was not played in the actual Rose Bowl Stadium. Michigan played Stanford on New Year’s Day and Michigan won with a score of 49-0. The actual Rose Bowl stadium was finished being built on October 28, 1922. The best game played at the Rose Bowl was the 2006 National Championship. The Texas Longhorns played the USC Trojans.The game was incredibly close from start to finish. This game came down to the legendary Texas quarterback, Vince Young, to win the game.

These games will have you on the edge of your seat all day. This is a good way to start the New Year. You can have bragging rights over all of your friends and family for the whole year if your team wins. The CFP is the greatest time of the year for football fans, it has moments you only dream of seeing, and some improbable wins that teams pull off. It all starts December 31st and lasts until January 9, 2023.
