Christmastime is the time of year when families are gathering all over the world to celebrate together. The idea of the most fabulous Christmas party of all time will be different depending on who you ask.
Ms. Mecure prefers that her party stays small and includes the people who are important to her. She says the food would be mostly Italian including the seven fish dinner. The music would be a refreshing mix of old and new Christmas music that progresses into dance music as time goes on. A photo booth with props would be set up for anyone to use. Her family would play games at the party, most notably a game of riddles, and try to solve them. She also mentioned that she does this gift exchange called a Yankee swap. For those of you that are not familiar with this gift exchange, it is not the same as a white elephant gift exchange. A White Gift exchange is a game that is usually played at Christmas parties. Everyone invited to the party is asked to bring a wrapped gift to exchange with other party goers. Once everyone arrives, names are placed in a bowl and mixed up. Before starting the game, the host passes the bowl around and has everyone select a name. The gifts are then given to those people. Similar to a white elephant exchange is a Yankee Swap. Party goers bring a wrapped gift to exchange with others. Each person picks a number out of a hat. The person with the lowest number picks a gift out of the pile. The lower the number you draw, the better off you are because you have more opportunities to “steal” gifts from other players. If you have a higher number, your chance of receiving one of the unwanted gifts is higher. Once all players have received a gift, they can no longer swap with anyone else and the game is over.
Devan Palomaki says, “You can’t celebrate without mashed potatoes.” Palomaki claims there will have to be at least two 2 liters of Dr. Pepper at his Christmas party. He said that with an unlimited budget he would hold the party at Buckingham Palace in London. The games for the party would be Mario Kart and “bobbing for chestnuts” in ice-cold water. As for the gift exchange, he would like to hold one, and again with an unlimited budget, his gift to give would be a train car full of coal. Overall, Devan had one of the most interesting “perfect” Christmas parties, but there is another contender for that spot.
Mr. Dougherty put the most imagination into his Christmas party. He gave a good description of the setting, it must be snowing outside, while warm and cozy inside with a fire burning in the fireplace. However, the fire must absolutely not be a gas fire, it must be wood. Continuing on with Mr. Dougherty's Christmas extravaganza is his important guest list. His guest list would include Santa, Mrs. Claus, and a couple of elves, and on the blacklisted paper is THE GRINCH! Mr. Dougherty stated that he would order a Chick-fil-a tray of nuggets for everyone to snack on.
Everyone wants to have the perfect party on Christmas Day. Some people have elaborate ideas like Mr. Dougherty and his spectacular Christmas party. Others want lavish parties in places with train cars full of coal like Devan. Some people prefer a small, simple family gathering like Mrs. Mercure. Evidently, everyone’s vision of the perfect party varies drastically, but the goal everyone has in mind is to make sure all participants have fun. We in the Lowellville Media class wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
