Everyone has traditions or activities for the holidays whether they celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or any other holiday their culture includes. Lowellville Elementary students have shared how they spend their holidays.
Third grade student, Gabriel Fowler, was interviewed and asked about how he spends his Christmas. On Christmas Eve, Gabriel and his family prepare for Christmas Day and go to church. On Christmas Day they open their stockings, presents, and will show their bunnies the presents that they bought for them. Throughout the rest of the day his family will watch movies which include Elf and The First Christmas, play basketball in his basement, and play chess. For dinner they eat a variety of foods, which include: ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and green beans. He loves playing with all the new toys and gifts he received for Christmas.
When third grader, Grace Mihaly, wakes up on Christmas morning, she and her siblings open their presents and stockings. Later, her family and some friends come over to her house to celebrate. This gives her time to play with some of her new toys. Usually before dinner, Grace’s family will play a big game of Uno. Once it is time for dinner, her family feasts on ham, mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing, and different types of cookies and pies for dessert.
Patrick Durkin, a first grade student, spends his Christmas surrounded by family. They begin their Christmas with opening their stockings and presents as soon as everyone wakes up. Afterwards, they spend time playing Candy Land or Uno and watching movies, such as Elf, A Christmas Story, and The Polar Express. Once it’s time for dinner, they eat ham, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, deviled eggs, hot chocolate, ice cream, ice cream cake, popsicles, and cookies. .
Addison Hejduk, in first grade, spends Christmas Eve with her family. They eat ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, mac n cheese, deviled eggs, cookies, pie, and ice cream. On Christmas Day they play a variety of games such as, Candy Land, Monopoly, Guess Who, and Ticket to Ride. Her family loves to watch movies such as, Polar Express, Elf, and A Christmas Story. Some of her favorite traditions are sleeping in her older sister's room, opening her stocking, and eating a large breakfast.
Christmas is one of the best times of year to spend with family. These students all love spending time with their families and were happy to share their traditions. They each have dinner, open presents together, play games and watch movies. On behalf of the Lowellville Media class, we would like to wish you a Happy Holiday!
