Lowellville Drama Club

Drama Club is a club that meets weekly to practice improvisation and acting exercises. For the past 9 years Ms. Mia DiRienzo Olson has been the advisor and director for the Drama Club at Lowellville High School. Her co-director is a retired Lowellville teacher, Nancy Olander. Together they put on a play each spring, but this year they put on a winter one as well.

So far, Ms. DiRienzo has put on 11 shows throughout the years that she has been the director. They have one hour meetings every Wednesday. Leading up to the play they have rehearsals ranging from 1 to 3 hours depending on the size of your role. Ms. DiRienzo prefers to do plays that are comedies.

Senior, Laila McCaughtry, has been a part of the crew in the Drama Club for 2 years. She works as stage manager and controls everything up in the booth. Her job includes the lights, sound, and gives stage directions to the actors. She joined the Drama Club because Ms. DiRienzo needed a new stage manager and thought she’d be great for the job.

Junior, Casey Gordon, has been involved in Drama Club for 3 years acting. He would like to eventually help out with the crew. He joined the club because many people wanted him to be in the cast and he eventually caved. He enjoys acting very much.

Sophomore, Hadassah Rivera, has been acting in the Drama Club since her freshman year. She joined the Drama Club because her sisters were in the club in previous years. She thought it would have been something fun for her to do. Not only does she perform on the stage for the school but sometimes she enjoys performing in shows for her church too.

Sophomore, Bobby Loftus, is in his second year in the club. He joined the Drama Club because he thought it would be fun. He is a part of both the crew and the cast. He informed us it is a possibility that he might pursue acting in the future.

Ms. DiRienzo believes students should join the club if they are interested in performing arts, being in the technical field, or if they want to be a part of something. She said, “Drama Club is like a family in which every person plays an important role, so if a student is looking for a sense of belonging, Drama Club is a wonderfully supportive and accepting community to be a part of.”
