After the release of MAINA and the short Youtube animation Mondo Trasho, Fall Out Boy hasn't released any music for three years after the Bob Dylan single. On January 4, 2023 they released a two-minute claymation clip starring a claymation dog. They also uploaded a website called Welcome To The Dark Side with nothing but the video on it. However, at the end of the clip, you hear a few seconds of what could be a new song that sounds much heavier compared to their last album. My prediction of what's to come is a more metal/punk album since MIANA took a more pop approach and wasn't received well. I think it'll sound more heavy metal. However, after their hiatus in 2013, they announced that they will not be doing anything like their old more punky style going for more of a pop/alternative sound. Fans would love to see them go back to their roots and go for a punk sound. Or going for a simple rock sound would also work for them. Fall Out Boy gets a lot of inspiration from Metallica so a hard rock album would make sense. The point is their fans are waiting for any indication that a new album is in the works and will be released soon.
On January 11, 2023 Fall Out Boy posted a 14-second clip of a new song called "Lovers from the Other Side”, with a release date of January 18th. From the clip you can hear that the song is taking a punk approach and leaving behind the pop aspects of MAINA. A week later on January 18th, they released the song, “Love from the Other Side” and announced their new album. A new video for the song was also released. The album entitled So Much for Stardust is set for a release date of March 24, 2023. Fans can’t wait!
