From taking pictures at sporting events to fixing technology issues, Mr. Schriner does it all. Mr. Schriner is Lowellville High School’s boys’ golf coach, yearbook advisor, technology coordinator, and photographer. He also served in the Navy for ten years. He has been working at Lowellville for fifteen years and seeing the students excel is his favorite part of his job. His military years and organization skills help him manage all the things he does around the school, but it's not easy.
Mr. Schriner shared with us some of his passions in an interview, all originating from his years in The Navy. His love for golf started when he was in San Diego in 1986. It cost only $5.00 to golf eighteen holes for people who served in The Navy, so he took it up as a sport. He has golfed all over the world in twenty eight countries. His knowledge in technology also came from The Navy, as he worked in advanced electronics. While on the ocean, Mr. Schriner loved looking at the sunrises, sunsets, and all the other scenery around him. This started his photography career and he began taking pictures for sporting events while working at the school. His other hobbies include working on cars, wildlife photography, lawn work including cutting trees, working with flowers, and gardening.
Student Evan Alfano has been a part of the golf team for four years, a member of the yearbook staff for three years, and takes pictures at sporting events using Mr. Schriner’s camera. This started at a basketball game in 2021 when Mr. Schriner asked Evan if he wanted to take some pictures, and it hasn’t stopped since. This event gave Evan a love and passion for photography. Along with photography, Evan says Mr. Schriner is an amazing golf coach. His favorite memories with Mr. Schriner are yearbook days, where yearbook staff spend hours working on putting the yearbook together and having fun.
