The Character Avengers are a program unique to Lowellville that work to improve and spread good character throughout the school and community. Each Avenger is assigned to a grade K-6 and each grade is assigned to the character trait of their Avenger. Every student has the ability to earn “character points” if they show an act of good character that represents their trait for the year. Students then work towards the goal of earning 10, 20, and 30 character points. Each comes with a different reward. The program is in its 7th year, but continues to grow every year. The goal of the program is to hold the students to a high standard and teach them qualities that will be with them throughout life.
On Thursday, March 16, 2023, the Lowellville Character Avengers paid a visit to the elementary students, with the third awards assembly of the year. As always, students were excited to see their favorite Avengers. It was amazing to see so many smiles and excitement from the K-6 students. This was one of the largest award tables the Avengers have seen. There were many awards given out including: 10 point character wristbands, 20 point character t-shirts, and 30 point Junior Avenger t-shirts. The students that accomplished earning their 30 point shirts are eligible to participate in the Avenger hike at the end of the school year.
At the beginning of the assembly, K-6 students were excited, waiting in the gym bleachers for the Avengers. “Let's get ready to rumble” played from the speakers as the Avengers ran out and up and down the bleachers, greeting all the students. “Stop, think, do the right thing” is this year's Avenger slogan, and the students chanted it loudly. Harmony, 6th grade Avenger of Responsibility, started giving out the previously mentioned awards. She was followed by AZ, 5th grade Avenger of Trustworthiness. Next was Solstice, 4th grade Avenger of Respect. Continuing was U.V., 3rd grade Avenger of Citizenship, then Tango, 2nd grade Avenger of Fairness. Last but not least, Cardinal the 1st grade Avenger of Caring handed out his awards. Every student who has earned an award got the opportunity to sit in the “Avenger Zone.” At the end of the assembly, those in the “Avenger Zone” got to take a picture with all of the Avengers, and then the Avenger for their grade walked them back to class. The kids left happily with their Avenger and proud of themselves for their accomplishments.
