The Yearbook Process

At the end of every year many students purchase a yearbook. However, they may not think about what it takes for this yearbook to be published. The yearbook staff at Lowellville is made up of 27 people, advised by Mr. Schriner, where each person is assigned different pages to complete. Throughout the months of the school year, there are multiple yearbook workdays, in which students work strictly on their yearbook assignments all day long. The job is a lot more work than you may think it is. One person can have anywhere between 2-20 pages to complete per deadline, all depending on what he or she is doing. For these pages you need to come up with your own design, and photos for the page. You are responsible for writing the text for sports and extracurricular pages. The write up can either come from you, a star player, or even the coach.

There are over 100 pages that need to be completed. Pages range from sports, arts, clubs, candids, and your typical school class pictures. Because there is a specific website that needs to be used, Cory Leeke from Jostens comes in at the beginning of the year and teaches all of the yearbook staff how to navigate the website. He teaches us how to work with different fonts and colors, changing the shapes of images, and uploading photos. During the yearbook days the staff is provided with pizza, chips, and plenty of drinks to get them through the day. Our advisor is always with us making sure that we are staying on task and getting our work done. It is extremely nice to sit back at the end of the year and reminisce, and even though creating the yearbook could be very stressful at times, it is great to look back at the yearbook when it is finished to appreciate what our hard work has accomplished, as well as having a wonderful keepsake of the past school year.
