Many teens around the world tune in to their favorite Netflix shows on their phones, computers, or whatever device they have handy. After surveying Lowellville students, we found that the hit television series Stranger Things is allegedly the most popular Netflix show according to students in our district. A bracket was created asking students to choose between twelve well-known shows. In the end, Outer Banks, Grey’s Anatomy, and Stranger Things were in the finals.
Stranger Things is a sci-fi and drama series set in Hawkins, Indiana. Although the show was produced in 2016, it takes place in the 1980’s with its funky colors and nostalgic music. The show follows a group of kids in search of their missing friend when they come across a young girl with psychic abilities. As they search for the missing boy they reveal the secrets and mysteries of Hawkins. The show currently has four seasons and will complete the series with a fifth one, which is planned to come out in 2024.
Outer Banks is a teen drama series set in Outer Banks, North Carolina. The island is split into two social classes, the pogues and the kooks. A pogue is considered the working class, who live on the south side of the island. Their “arch-nemesis” the kooks live on the north side and are considered the upper class. The show follows pogues and lifelong friends, John B, JJ, Kiara, and Pope as they search for gold that could be linked to John B’s father’s disappearance. The show has 2 seasons with season 3 coming out early this year.
Grey's Anatomy is a primetime medical drama that follows the lives of surgeons at the fictional Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, located in Seattle. With the nineteenth season currently airing, Grey's Anatomy is the longest-running American medical drama. The series follows Meredith Grey and the team of doctors who are faced with life-or-death decisions on a daily basis. They seek comfort from one another, and, at times, more than just friendship. Together, they discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in what is right and wrong, but often somewhere in between.
Altogether, we strongly recommend these Netflix series for different reasons. If you are interested in sci-fi, mystery, and 80s nostalgia Stranger Things is the perfect show for you. Grey's Anatomy is a great series to binge if you are interested in medical-dramas, although it is long, there are great storylines, especially for romance fans. If you're intrigued by teen dramas and mysteries then Outer Banks is a great show to begin watching.
