With the winter sports season coming to an end, baseball season is approaching. So far, this has been a great year for Lowellville sports, so the baseball team is expected to have a successful season. Last year, Lowellville had a record of 5-15 and were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs. With six returning seniors, and four new freshmen, they have an exciting new team and are making adjustments in practice to prepare to win.
Lowellville has had a very successful year for sports. The football team went 10-0 and won a league championship, and the boys’ basketball team also won a league championship. Head Baseball Coach, Dan Dougherty states, “We have a tough schedule, we’re hoping to win league this year and make a good run in the playoffs.” There are currently 28 games scheduled, with 14 of them being conference matchups.
Senior Brady Bunofsky states, “We’re playing to win this year, we have an experienced team and we're looking forward to the season.” With two key players graduating last year, younger players are forced to step up into a bigger role this year.
Sophomore Liam Bartlett states, “It’s my first year starting at catcher, in my opinion it’s the hardest position in baseball. It’s gonna be mentally challenging but I'm willing to put in the work.” Opening day takes place Saturday, March 25th 2023 at home at 12:00pm. The Rockets will face off against the Columbiana Clippers. We wish the team the best of luck with their season. Go Rockets!
