Are you having trouble finding the perfect Mother’s Day gift for your loved ones? If you are, keep reading this article for the guide to the perfect gift! Mother’s Day is fast approaching on May 14th, and everyone wants to show their appreciation to their mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and godmothers Mother’s Day arose in 1905 when a woman named Anna Jarvis passed away and following her death, her daughter Ann Reeves Jarvis created Mother’s Day to honor her. Mother’s Day originated as a way of honoring the sacrifices that mothers make for their children. When Jarvis first created this holiday, it used to involve wearing a white carnation as a badge and visiting mothers or church services. On such an important day, it can be difficult to find the gift that you know will mean so much to your mother.
When shopping for a gift, you may immediately want to buy something flashy and expensive, but more expensive gifts are not always the best choice. Of course it is such a nice gesture to buy something expensive for your loved ones, but many times personal and sentimental gifts mean a lot more. For example, a picture frame, a personalized candle, a necklace with a picture in it, or use your talent and make something for your mother. Another way of showing you appreciation is kind gestures such as helping with chores, cooking breakfast or dinner, or going somewhere to spend quality time with your mother. If there is something that your loved one has been saying that they really want, you could always buy that item for them. If you listen closely you can probably get an idea of what your loved ones might enjoy as a gift. But, in my opinion, something that is more important than any gift is a handmade card. The time and effort that goes into making a personal and sentimental card goes a long way.
Sophomore Aryana Romano said that she gets her mother gifts, they go out to eat, and she gives her flowers. When asked what she does special for her mom, Kenzie McCormick said she and her siblings give their mom custom and homemade gifts and make her breakfast in bed. Bobby Loftus said that his whole family goes out for brunch together on Mother’s Day. Maddie Esposito’s family does something different every year for the special day. She says that some years they go to see a movie.
In order to figure out what mothers want in a Mother’s Day gift, I asked my own mom what she likes to receive for Mother’s Day. She responded with, “Something that doesn’t cost anything, but is just love. Like a handwritten card, or cooking breakfast, or going somewhere together. Just being together.”
