Spring Break came and went in a flash, but that doesn’t mean the students and staff didn’t have the time to enjoy it. Everyone in the school enjoyed nine days free of the responsibilities of school and the band took a trip to Disney World in Orlando. Many spent time with family or friends and some band members extended the trip, while some others took a different vacation.
Mathew Lucido did not go on the Disney trip with the band. Instead he spent time relaxing at home and putting work in on the track. Mat hit a new personal record in the 800m dash over spring break with an impressive time of 2:05.55. For his Easter celebration, Mat painted Easter eggs and ate Easter dinner with his family. His Nonna has a tradition of making Easter bread every year to celebrate.
Anthony Vrabel had a pretty eventful break. Over break he went to see the Cleveland Guardians play, celebrated his 17th birthday, and celebrated Easter. His family participates in an Easter egg hunt every year and always goes to church on Easter Sunday. Afterwards, his family goes to Anthony’s grandparents' houses for Easter dinner.
Mr. Doughtery (Doc) also went to see the Guardians game but the highlights of his break were spending time with his daughter and taking a big win over Hubbard with the JV baseball team. Doc spent time with both sides of his family and had a lot of different houses to go to for Easter celebrations.
During Spring Break, many Lowellville band students went to Disney World. Every four years the Lowellville Marching Band goes to Disney World in Orlando, Florida, participating in a parade down Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. At the head of the trip is the band director Mr. Antonucci. Mr. Antonucci said that the trip went very smoothly as the entire group came to Disney prepared. This year the trip was really special for him. He said, ”Normally the parade is a blur, this time I was able to take it all in and enjoy it.” He was thankful that he could be more in the moment for the parade.
While the parade went very well for the most part, there was one mishap early on. Geno Perry, a percussionist, had a faulty harness which snapped and his snare drum rolled away. Mr. Antonucci said that he didn’t know of this until the end of the parade so it was handled really well. Overall his favorite part of the trip was “being able to perform for all those people from all over the world.”
Overall, Spring Break was a fun and relaxing time for many students and staff members. The break was much needed for many students and staff. It was fun and exciting for younger band members who had never had a chance to travel to Disney with the band before. For some students this was their first trip to Disney or Universal. Now it’s the final stretch of the school year, so let’s finish it out Rocket strong!
