Twenty-one year old Billie Eilish has four number one hits and at 18 years old was the youngest female artist to have a number one album in the UK. Billie has recorded three albums in total with the help of her brother, Finneas Baird O’Connell, who helps her write all her music. She’s been releasing music since she was 14 years old. Billie first gained public attention in 2015 with her song, “Ocean Eyes'' written and produced by Finneas, who she collaborates with on music and live shows. Billie has her own documentary on Disney+ called Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles.
In 2020, Billie Eilish was the youngest person to win all four top awards at the Grammys in one year. She has been writing music since she was 11 years old and has never stopped since. Billie originally recorded the song "Ocean Eyes" for the dance company she used to be a part of called Revolution Dance Center.
She’s known for her streetwear style of baggy clothes which she wears because she wants fans to focus on her music and not her figure. However, once she finally wore something different, which was a vest top, the media started attacking her. This caused her to make a spoken word piece called “Not My Responsibility.” It shows Eilish critiquing how the media and public had shamed her and every other woman over their bodies. She asks the audience if they wanted her to be skinnier, shorter, or quieter. Again, Eilish points out to her fans that it’s her music that is important, not what she looks like or how she dresses. Considering this is coming from a young artist, Eilish has continued to influence and impact teenage fans. .
In 2018, the singer publicly announced that she had Tourette Syndrome. Her opening up about her disorder has helped her better connect with her fans that have it or any other similar conditions. Additionally, it has brought awareness of the disorder into the public limelight.
Lowellville High School students voted on her top songs in a recent poll. The winning song, “Happier Than Ever” is one of her most popular songs. This song is relatable so it’s not surprising that it was the favorite, however, “Bury a Friend” would have been my first choice because of its melody and bass. “Happier Than Ever” is about her past relationship that didn’t go very well with all the lyrics explaining her relationship with him. It’s a beautiful song and can be related from multiple points of view.
